Our Story

Birdie Financial was founded by Tyler Dellow, a name well known in New Zealand finance. Tyler’s career began back in 2004, long before LVR restrictions, or mortgage cashback wars became everyday language. He’s lived through the Global Financial Crisis, the rapid rise and fall of the Covid-era property bubble, and everything in between. Through every cycle, one thing has stayed constant: his commitment to helping New Zealanders make confident, informed financial decisions.

Birdie Financial was founded by Tyler Dellow, a name well known in New Zealand finance. Tyler’s career began back in 2004, long before LVR restrictions, or mortgage cashback wars became everyday language. He’s lived through the Global Financial Crisis, the rapid rise and fall of the Covid-era property bubble, and everything in between. Through every cycle, one thing has stayed constant: his commitment to helping New Zealanders make confident, informed financial decisions.
Over the past two decades, Tyler has worked inside some of New Zealand’s biggest banks, led high-performing teams, and managed mortgage advisers at the country’s largest financial advice firm. Along the way, he’s helped thousands of Kiwis secure home loans, restructure their lending, and build stronger financial futures.
 
But experience alone wasn’t enough. Tyler saw first-hand how inconsistent the industry could be—and how much impact truly personalised advice could make. He founded Birdie Financial with a simple mission:
to deliver the highest level of service, backed by unparalleled expertise, to every single client.
 
Birdie is built on the belief that great advice changes lives. It saves people tens of thousands in interest. It opens doors to homes people didn’t think they could afford. It creates confidence in a world that often feels overwhelming. And it should be available to everyone—not just those who know how to ask the right questions.

Tyler Dellow

Tyler Dellow has worked in New Zealand finance since 2004, helping thousands of Kiwis secure home loans and build stronger financial futures. He’s worked through the GFC, the Covid market surge, and multiple interest rate cycles—bringing real-world experience to every client conversation.
Before founding Birdie Financial, Tyler held roles inside some of NZ’s biggest banks and led high-performing mortgage adviser teams at the country’s largest financial advice firm. He started Birdie to lift the standard of service in the industry and ensure every client gets clear, personalised guidance backed by decades of knowledge.
In his spare time, he’s invested in property himself, and loves packing his family into the campervan to explore the beautiful beaches and scenery that NZ has to offer, and can often be seen in local Auckland hotspots behind the DJ decks
Today, Tyler leads Birdie’s fast-growing team with a simple focus: delivering the best financial advice experience in New Zealand.

Lucy Mitchell

Lucy Mitchell joined Birdie Financial in 2025 and has a strong focus on helping first-home buyers. Having bought her first home before 30, she knows the process well and understands both the excitement and the uncertainty that comes with taking that first step. Her firsthand experience with the highs and lows of the property market allows her to offer practical, grounded guidance and structure loans that truly support her clients’ goals.
Lucy is committed to making the home-buying journey feel approachable, transparent, and exciting—because everyone deserves to feel confident when securing their first home.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find her crafting and getting stuck into creative projects, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, or spending time at the beach enjoying New Zealand’s beautiful coastline.
